South East European Film Fest Closing Night in Beverly Hills

A Romanian film making its West Coast premiere will conclude the Ninth Annual South East European Film Festival (SEE Fest) at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills on May 5

Helmed by Romanian filmmaker Andre Zinca, Puzzle anchors a five-day film festival that began May 1 and showcased 34 screenings of feature, short, and documentary productions from 15 European countries through the first full weekend of the month.

The theme of this year’s SEE Fest was “Europe in a time of turmoil,” with films, according to the festival’s organizers, highlighting the continent’s “turbulent past that looms large over the present.”

“We look for films that create an in-depth portrait of South East Europe for American audiences,” SEEfest director Vera Mijojlic stated.

Also featured at SEE Fest was the Sixth Annual Business of Film Conference held at the Goethe-Institut of Los Angeles and connecting independent filmmakers to industry executives and leaders.

Puzzle, which debuted in Romania in May 2013, is a drama with the tagline, “A love story with a twist, or a twisted love story.” Actors Rodica Mandache, Catalina Mustata, and Dan Nutu headline the film.

Zinca will attend the closing night festivities on Monday evening.

The closing night film screens at 7 p.m. on May 5. Puzzle runs 89 minutes; dialog is in Romanian with English subtitles. According to the SEE Fest website, tickets to the screening is $20. Contact festival organizers about ticket availability.

On May 1, SEE Fest opened with the world premiere of Sarajevo, which was based on the events 100 years ago involving the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and the start of World War I (then known as The Great War).

The Writers Guild Theater is located at 135 South Doheny Drive in Beverly Hills.
