Community In Schools (CIS) and the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics (WHIEEH) will be hosting a national policy forum March 27 at Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to discuss strategies to empower Hispanic students.
Among those attending the ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ forum include Rafael Lopez, senior policy advisor for the White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation, Thelma Melendez de Santa Ana, education advisor to Mayor Eric Garcetti, and Dan Cardinali, president, Communities In Schools, Inc.
The forum starts at 8:30 a.m. and continues through 5 p.m.
After opening remarks, members of Child Trends will make a presentation, followed by the day’s first panel discussing programs and practices that help students make strides in academic achievement.
Other panels discuss the foundations for success, the role of philanthropy and policy, and public policy recommendations and private sector engagement.
Lopez, who works with the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy will be giving the keynote address at 1 p.m.
WHIEEH executive director Alejandra Ceja will be delivering the closing remarks.
CAA is located 2000 Avenue of the Stars in Century City.
