“Revenge” star Henry Czerny will emcee NatureBridge’s annual Hike-A-Thon on May 3 at Will Rogers State Historic Park in Pacific Palisades.
NatureBridge is the largest residential environmental education partner of the National Park Service.
In its third year, the NatureBridge Hike-A-Thon raises funds and awareness for environmental science education in the Santa Monica Mountains and Channel Islands.
“I am honored to be a part of this important event to help raise awareness about every child’s need for environmental literacy,” said Czerny. “We live in this beautiful paradise, and some children have never seen the ocean or the mountains. If they don’t experience it, how can they protect it?”
Recent studies have shown that children today spend just seven minutes outside each day doing things like climbing trees, yet more than seven hours each day in front of an electronic screen.
Experts say that children who play and learn in nature are healthier, happier, and smarter. Nature play stimulates creativity and improves problem solving. Schools using environmental themes report improved academic performance.
