The Commanding Officer of Detectives here at West L.A. division asked the Senior Lead Officers to reach out to their communities to remind everyone that thefts are on the rise, particularly in coffee houses, supermarkets, bus benches, restaurants, etc.
Any time you set your property down—laptops, cell phones, I-pads, purses, backpacks– you risk someone walking away with it. There are criminals that specifically target coffee houses for example.
How many times do you see people leave their electronics on a coffee house table unattended to use the restroom? I see it far too often.
Do you sometimes hang your purse or bag on the back of your chair as you sit in a restaurant? Don’t. There are criminals who can take advantage of these opportunities as well. Be a good neighbor and remind those you see being a little complacent with their property that there are those types of crimes occurring– even here in paradise.
