Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center celebrates the 100th anniversary of dance’s most influential work, The Rite of Spring, with The Joffrey Ballet’s groundbreaking recreation of the original Ballets Russes production Friday, February 1st and 2nd at 7:30pm and on Sunday, February 3, 2013 2:00pm.
Igor Stravinsky’s score and Vaslav Nijinsky’s choreography for the 1913 Paris premier sparked a riot that is said to have given birth to modern music and dance. It took Millicent Hodson, along with collaborator and husband Kenneth Archer, over 15 years to piece together original scores, paintings, reviews, notes and first-person accounts to unearth the alarming genius of work.
Equally innovative in its presentation of revolutionary new works, the Joffrey remains one of the worlds finest companies, a leading artistic force today as it was when first founded in 1956.
