Actress, stand-up comic and certified laugh leader Katy Franco’s one-woman show, “The Breast Years of My Life,†will make its US Premiere on Monday, August 20, 8:00pm, at the Laugh Factory, 8001 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood.
“The Breast Years of My Life†is Franco’s show about her offbeat experiences as a breast cancer patient. As a comic, she skillfully weaves stand-up comedy, laughter therapy, a narrated mime presentation of her book “Chemorella,†and her own true story into a powerful, hysterically funny show. It is a celebration of life – and the follies of love – as told by a woman who kills with laughter.
The Latina funny lady has performed throughout the US, Puerto Rico and South America. With her husband, dog bite law attorney Ken Phillips, Franco is the author of “Chemorella†(subtitled “Quimiorela†), a bilingual, beautifully illustrated Cinderella story about beating cancer and seeing your dreams come true (www.chemorella.com). Katy and Ken are principals in Beverly Hills-based Franco-Phillips Publishing.
Franco was awarded the 2012 Rire d’Or (Golden Laughter) award from France’s International School of Humor. Local appearances have included the Ice House, the Improv, and the Laugh Factory. “Katy Franco is the personification of the art-humor-healing intersection,†wrote Steve Wilson, founder of the World Laughter Tour.
For every ticket sold, a copy of “Chemorella†will be donated to a local hospital or charity for women’s or children’s cancer.
