The San Diego chapter of the Society of Government Meeting Professionals (SGMP) has expanded its territory and changed its name to the Southern California chapter. In conjunction with the expansion, membership fees for government meeting professionals have been reduced 55 percent through March 31, 2012.
This chapter has represented SGMP in the greater San Diego area since its founding in December 1992. As the Southern California chapter, monthly meetings each year will now be held at locations in San Diego, greater Los Angeles and Orange County areas.
“SGMP is thrilled to now have formal representation throughout Southern California,†said Sandi Smith, president of the SGMP Southern California chapter. “We look forward to growth throughout San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Imperial counties, along with the Ventura and Santa Barbara areas.â€
SGMP membership, which costs only $30 for the year prior to March 31, 2012, is available to federal, state or local government employees, including school districts and military personnel, and to contract employees who are involved in planning government meetings on a full or part-time basis. Membership is also available to suppliers who provide services or facilities to, or derive income from, these meetings.
SGMP is the only professional organization in the United States dedicated exclusively to government meetings. SGMP is a national non-profit organization of 3,500 members in 33 chapters who are involved in planning government meetings. SGMP’s objectives are to enhance the knowledge and expertise of government meeting professionals—through education, resources, and networking—in order to improve the quality, and promote the cost-effectiveness, of government meetings.
