The visionary showman, best known as the founder of the legendary Bitter End in Greenwich Village club (which turns 50 this year)The Bitter End Fred Weintraub also launched the careers of many bold faced names including Bill Cosby, Joan Rivers, Woody Allen and Neil Diamond.
As the title suggests, Weintraub was also the driving force behind “Woodstock†the film and the discovery of the martial arts sensation Bruce Lee whose talents he showcased in “Enter the Dragon†which Weintraub produced.
Through his producing career, which includes forty plus films, he worked with many luminaries including Steve McQueen, George C. Scott, Robert Duvall, Kirsten Dunst and dozens of others.
Bruce Lee, Woodstock and Me is an insightful, funny, bawdy and honest memoir which details Weintraub’s battles with dictators, mobsters, movie executives, difficult stars, and red-baiting producers – and his more personal pursuits with a lusty succession of Hollywood gals on his fifty-year journey through the entertainment business.
Weintraub’s recollections of hedonistic Cuba in the ‘50s, network television in the McCarthy era, Greenwich Village in the ‘60s, and the world of movie making from the ‘70s to today are evocative, revealing and laced with one-liners that would make his comic discoveries proud.
