Students may audition for two different programs being offered by SAB next summer. The New York Summer Course at SAB’s Lincoln Center headquarters will take place from June 25 to July 28 and is for intermediate and advanced ballet students who will be 12 to 18 years old as of July 31, 2012. SAB’s Los Angeles Workshop for Young Dancers will be held from July 30 to August 10 at Westside School of Ballet in Santa Monica, California, and is for ballet students who will be 10 to 14 years old as of July 31, 2012. Students who meet the age criteria for both programs may choose to be considered for one or both programs during the upcoming auditions.
During the next two months, more than 2,000 aspiring ballet dancers in 20 cities will vie for approximately 200 coveted spots in SAB’s New York Summer Course and for 60 slots in the Los Angeles Workshop. Suzanne Farrell, Darci Kistler, Sara Mearns, Ethan Stiefel, Gelsey Kirland, Benjamin Millepied and Wendy Whelan are just a few of the notable dancers who attended the School of American Ballet as part of their formative training.
The School of American Ballet, founded 78 years ago by legendary choreographer George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein, is the premier ballet academy in the United States and trains more students who become professional ballet dancers than any other American school. SAB’s former students fill the ranks of the New York City Ballet and other leading U.S. and international ballet companies. The 2012 National Audition Tour is sponsored by Freed of London.
