American violinist Lindsay Deutsch, hailed by Jeffrey Kahane, Musical Director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, as “one of the most interesting, imaginative, and downright thrilling young violinists in America today,†kicks off the fourth season of the L.A. Musical Salon Series at the Regency Club in Westwood on Saturday, February 12, 6 p.m.
With a presence and charisma that fills the performance space, Ms. Deutsch will take her audience on a whirlwind musical tour through the seasons, arcing from Vivaldi to Piazzolla, O’Connor and familiar popular songs such as “Autumn Leaves.†Ms. Deutsch will be accompanied by pianist Vivian Fan.
Ms. Deutsch, a graduate of the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, is currently touring the United States as a 2010-2011 Live On Stage Artist. Her L.A. Musical Salon appearance is an excellent opportunity to catch this rising young star, whom the Los Angeles Times says has “the technical equipment and temperament for a big career.â€
The L.A. Musical Salon is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization based in Westwood, whose mission is to nurture both a new generation of performing arts talent, through its Salon Series and commissioning of new works; and a new generation of audience, through its community outreach programs.
Its Salon Series, an annual series of three dinner-concerts, creates a unique environment where rising young professional performers can build a personal relationship with audience members in an intimate, gracious setting.
Past featured artists have included soprano Courtney Huffman, who has since made her Carnegie Hall debut and garnered a rave review from Los Angeles Times music critic Mark Swed for her performance as Teutile in Vivaldi’s Montezuma (“brilliantly sung…she sings and steals the stage…I hope opera talent scouts were on hand.†); and cellist Lars Hoefs of the Blue Rose Trio, who subsequently accepted an appointment as Assistant Principal Cellist of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra (Orquestra Sinfonica Brasileira) in Rio de Janeiro (and was able to provide an insider’s glimpse to the Orchestra for two L.A. Musical Salon Series audience members when they took a trip to Brazil.)
Rounding out its 2011 season, on March 12 the L.A. Musical Salon Series will showcase singers Heather and Ryan Reithmeier, who will explore the connections between operetta, opera, musical theater and film in a program entitled “From Footlights to Film†; and on April 9 the superb Fiato String Quartet will perform Dvorak’s popular and captivating “American Quartet.â€
