The Nutcracker is returning to The Wadsworth Theatre in Brentwood, and it’s ready to thrill, according to Yvonne Mounsey of the Westside Ballet of Santa Monica.
From the moment the lights dim, The Nutcracker transports the audience to a magical place filled with peppermint candy and dancing snowflakes, set to Tchaikovsky’s majestic score. It’s the traditional full-length ballet, from battling Toy Soldiers to the glittering Sugar Plum Fairy.
Drawing its company from the affiliated Westside School of Ballet, The Nutcracker features the most promising young dancers in Los Angeles.
This year’s Nutcracker features Westside School of Ballet alumna Melissa Barak, (New York City Ballet, Los Angeles Ballet), returning as the Sugar Plum Fairy for select performances.
Overseeing the production is Artistic Director Yvonne Mounsey, founder of Westside Ballet of Santa Monica and former principal dancer with New York City Ballet under George Balanchine.
“We train our dancers to the nth degree,†says Mounsey. “It’s polish, polish, polish.â€
“It’s simply breathtaking, something every one should see,†says Mounsey.
