In February 2010 Womenfound opened in Brentwood Village.
Womenfound is a retail store which has become a fantastic find for local women. Everyone knows they’ll find what they need – whether its a gift, a personal trinket, a major fashion statement or some other special like tasteful jewelry, handmade shawls, unique organic cotton shirts, hand-stitched handbags and evening pieces.
But Womenfound is much more than just a retail store. They donate a sliding scale of the store’s quarterly
sales directly to charities or foundations that help
women in need around the world. This quarter Womenfound donated to MADRE (madre.org)
‘Madre’ is an organization which promotes the advancement of women around the globe by extending aid in the form of goods, services or money. They help protect women where they are in danger and empower them wherever they can.
My name is Maryam. I am the Founder of Womenfound. I am a 41 year old mother of three living in a peaceful community full of amenities and a realistic promise of safety. Still, I worry about my children and fret for their future. My heart goes out to women in less stable societies with fleeting assurances of safety who, despite their greatest efforts, can’t keep their kids safe from random harm.
I am educated and hold a JD, but still struggle to provide my kids all that they hope for. I cringe for those mothers who do not have the luxury of education and struggle even to provide their kids with basic needs.
My life’s objective has always been to make a difference.
From now on, my life’s work will be to try and make even the smallest of contributions in a great-big world replete with need.
My aim will be to reach the countless women who suffer through war and famine; death and disease; natural disaster and man-made calamity but remain peaceful and pass their hope onto another generation.
My hope is to grow WOMENFOUND into a foundation
that helps some of the neediest women, caring for some of the neediest children, on Earth.
Thank you, Brentwood, for all your support. Keep it coming. Together we can do much good…
