The Orchestra will open the program with “Palladio,†Welsh composer Karl Jenkins’ tribute to 16th-century architect Andrea Palladio, before accompanying the Chorale for the title piece, Henry Purcell’s Baroque masterpiece, “Welcome to all the Pleasures.†The second half of the program continues to explore the theme of pleasure—the pleasure of hope (the American spiritual, “Nothin’ Gonna Stumble My Feet,†the literal “Inscription of Hope†found on a basement wall in Nazi Germany), love (Eric Whitacre’s “Five Hebrew Love Songs,†Ysaye M. Barnwell’s “Wanting Memories†), and music (West African folk song “Kpanlongo,†Renaissance-influenced “Music’s Echo†).
