Steve Kanne’s Novel, The Furax Connection Now Available

Fireside Publications of Lady Lake, Florida, has published The Furax Connection, a work of historical fiction written by retired Brentwood lawyer Steve Kanne.

Furax tells the remarkable story of Harvard honors graduate Billy Rosen who volunteers for the draft shortly before the outbreak of the Korean War. Based in part upon the author’s own experiences in the military, the book has been endorsed by two retired general officers and a number of other former members of the military. General Ronald Fogelman, former Air Force Chief of Staff, read Furax and the author was advised that he “was very drawn into it and wants to know when the sequel will be out.†Alan Caruba, a charter member of the National Book Critics Circle, selected Furax as one of the best in new fiction and nonfiction books for the month of November 2009. Furax has been featured in a full-page review in the GCA Journal, the official publication of the Garand Collectors Association (a 14,000-member worldwide organization), and is scheduled to receive a write-up in the Korean War Project’s newsletter.

Storyline: The last thing Louis Rosen expected of his son, Billy, was that he would volunteer for the draft after graduating from Harvard in 1949 with highest honors; and the last thing Billy expected of his father was that he would become a partner in a criminal enterprise known as “Furax Unlimited.†Yet, when these two events unexpectedly collide and connect, Billy’s life is changed forever.

The Furax Connection chronicles Billy’s struggle for survival during his initial weeks in uniform when, unwittingly, he becomes entangled in a web of deceit and intrigue from which he must either extricate himself or suffer the shame and disgrace of a dishonorable discharge. That he survives at all is testimony not only to his resourcefulness and strength of purpose, but to his uncanny ability to forge relationships. And, as Billy struggles to survive, we learn from the author that, contrary to the civilian world of indifferent strangers Billy left behind, the military is a close-knit family of good and decent people who unselfishly care for their own.

Author’s Bio: Steve Kanne graduated from Harvard with honors, served in the Army as a military journalist, attended Stanford Law School, and practiced real estate law for over three decades. He wrote one of the three winning short stories in the 2006 Stanford Fiction Contest. The Furax Connection is his first novel.

The Furax Connection may be purchased on Amazon.com (where it is also available in Kindle format), online directly from Fireside Publications (www.firesidepubs.com) and in bookstores where available.
