Los Angeles, December 8, 2009 – The Southern California Development Forum 19th Annual Design Awards Event was a major success. Around 200 attendees flocked to the Luxe Summit Hotel to attend the Annual Design Awards Event. The Event was chaired by Hraztan Zeitlian, President of SCDF.
From over 70 entries to the Awards Program, 14 deserving projects were selected to receive awards. Among the Award winning projects were the West Los Angeles College Technology and Learning Center, nominated by Leo A Daly, the THE WALTER AND LENORE ANNENBERG CENTER FOR INFORMATION SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, nominated
by Frederick Fisher and Partners Architects, LA Live nominated by RTKL and the The Americana at Brand nominated by Caruso Affiliated, among other winners.
SCDF President Hraztan Zeitlian stated: “we were thrilled to receive as many award applications as we did. The quality of the submitted projects was very high†.
The Design Awards were chosen by a prestigious jury members including:
Clare DeBriere, COO, The Ratkovich Group
Ted Hyman, Managing Partner, ZGF
Warren Jacobs, University Architect for California State Universities
Dan Rosenfeld, Senior Deputy for Economic Development, Sustainability and Mobility of Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas.
The Jury Members participated in presenting the Awards in person and provided commentary about the winning projects.
In addition to the Design Awards, Hraztan Zeitlian bestowed two Presidential Awards. The First Presidential Award went to Dennis Hopper for his Cultural Contribution to the City of Los Angeles, and the Second Presidential Award for Architecture and Urban Design went to Marty Collins and Jeffrey Cohen of Gatehouse Capital for the W Hollywood project.
In addition to the Jury members Special Guests included:
Roger Moliere, Chief of Real Property and Economic Development for METRO and Lisa Kalustian, Chief Deputy Director of the Office of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in Los Angeles.
SCDF Design Awards recognize outstanding design contributions and commitment to the business environment and the communities of Southern California.
This year, Awards were given to deserving projects submitted in the following categories:
Commercial/Mixed Use Buildings
Institutional Buildings
(Civic, Education, Healthcare)
Residential Buildings
(All Scales)
Hospitality
Interiors
Outstanding Concept/Unbuilt Award
All Awards are for built projects except for projects submitted for the Outstanding Concept/Unbuilt Category.
Award criteria include:
Outstanding achievement in sustainable design
Design excellence
Beneficial impact on the community
Nominating firm must be located in Southern California
For built Awards, built projects needed to be completed between April 1, 2008 and October 1, 2009
