Yvonne Mounsey, director of Santa Monica’s Westside Ballet, was honored atthe L.A. County Board of Supervisor�s meeting during the week of November 18th with a scroll, commemorating her lifelong contribution to ballet and her recent 90th birthday. The scroll was presented to Mounsey by 3rd District Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky.
Thanking the board, Mounsey said, �I enjoy my work and look forward to continuing. We have a strong outreach program that brings in children to see our annual ‘Nutcracker.’ Giving children exposure to ballet is what we�re all about.�
Mounsey co-founded Westside Ballet Company and its associated school, the Westside Academy of Dance, in the 1960’s, after retiring from NYC Ballet as principal dancer under George Balanchine.
