The Aquarians: An Ancient Prophecy, A Modern Phenomenon, written by Erik Rankin, is an interesting treatment of the Mayan prophecy that is so “all that “ right now. The Mayan calendar prophecies the end of time to be December 21, 2012. What that means is anyone’s guess. Rankin uses dolphins in Mayan symbolism to equate dolphins and the end of time.
If that is a stretch for you, so is the story.
But it has its strengths. Remember Close Encounters of the Third Kind when Richard Dreyfuss’s character is driven by a paranormal urge to build sandcastles until ultimately, he arrives at the one where the aliens have landed?
Rankin uses much of the same plot line. However, because he weaves it in with Mayan archaeology and the science of dolphins it is entertaining and enlightening. In stretching the story line to incorporate many disparate elements, the plot line encompasses such historical tangents as John Lilly and the sensory deprivation tanks.
Although the author throws a wide net, the haul is hopeful and uplifting. The inspiration outweighs the angst.
I was disappointed that the book ended where it did, as if to say that the truth remains to be seen. The book is similar to the Aquarian Conspiracy, as suggested in its title. It is celestial and transcendent but the information is stimulating and perhaps some may find it useful in their own search for meaning.
