Tyrese Gibson and his band will give a concert at a Sunset Strip nightclub tonight (May 30) to benefit UNICEF and draw public attention to the kidnapping of scores of girls in Nigeria by an anti-Western, anti-education insurgent group.
The event will take place at 1 Oak at 9039 Sunset Boulevard and feature a live performance by Grammy-nominated artist TGT – Tank, Ginuwine, and Tyrese – with “surprise guests” joining in, a statement said.
“I have to shed light on human trafficking,” Tyrese Gibson said in a statement, referring to the kidnapping of 221 Nigerian girls from the village of Chibok in mid-April by the Islamic group Boko Haram, whose name means “Western Education is sinful.”
“Please join me to make a statement that this is wrong and completely unacceptable,” Tyrese Gibson added.
Tonight’s event will also include an auction. Proceeds will be made turned over to the United Nations Children’s Fund, the statement said, crediting UNICEF for having children around the world immunized against such diseases as measles.
