The Best Scenic Drives in L.A

Southern California, particularly L.A., is widely considered the epicenter of American car culture. The culture includes some of the best hot rodders, exotic cars, and low-riders. However, there is more to this culture than meets the eye. Unlike most American cities, the City of Angels was designed with vehicles in mind. After all, the city has some of the world’s best-driving roads.

From panoramic coastal highways to winding hill drives, there are several routes for car enthusiasts. Whether you’re yearning for a thrilling ride or just want to test drive your new sports car, you have come to the right city. With a sports car, you can easily handle the twists and turns of the following scenic drives.

Mulholland Drive

Named after Mulholland William, Mulholland Drive is among the most popular American roads. The 21-mile drive has been featured in several car videos and commercials. While traversing this route, you’ll finally understand why Jay Leno loves this route.

Besides its scenic beauty, Leno compared it to the popular Nurburgring race track, known as the world’s toughest and most demanding race track. This challenging road may help you confirm whether you’ve purchased a lemon.

The 21-mile drive runs between the Calabasas community and the Hollywood Hills neighborhood. You can start your drive at the Hollywood Bowl Overlook, where you can enjoy the city’s skyline. You can wrap your trip at the San Vicente Mountain Park, where the road turns to a rough path closed to vehicles. It then picks up near Topanga Canyon.

Angeles Crest Highway

Popular among drivers who love mountain drives, the Angeles Crest Highway has been featured in several vehicle reviews and movies. While traversing this 66-mile highway, stop at some scenic viewpoints and enjoy the sights. This route offers people an exceptional experience with some paranomic view of the city over 7,900ft.

It starts at La Canada Flintridge community and stretches through the Angeles National Forest. It then ends at the Mountain Top junction, which is about 30 miles northwest of San Bernardino. This drive promises an exhilarating trip with serene hill surroundings and captivating views.

Pacific Coast Highway(PCH)

As the quintessential route for L.A. scenic drives, the PCH offers breathtaking viewpoints like the Point Mugu State Park and El Matador Beach. This 600-mile along the Pacific Ocean takes you through California’s best cities/towns.

It starts at Dana Point Community, which is about 65 miles from Downtown L.A. It then stretches through iconic places like Manhattan Beach before passing through Malibu. While cruising on this highway, you’ll enjoy a refreshing sea breeze and some memorable ocean views.

The L.A. part of the PCH serves as the starting point for most scenic drive enthusiasts. You should consider trying the entire highway and visiting places like San Francisco, Monterey, and Carmel-By-The-Sea.

Endnote

Besides the impressive car culture, L.A. has some of the most iconic drives on the planet. Some routes, like the PCH, take you through some of the best Californian cities while you drive along the Pacific Ocean. For mountain drive lovers, L.A has Angeles Crest Highway, which starts at La Canada and ends at the top.
