As parents, enjoying a trip without kids can sometimes feel like a real blessing, right? After all, as much as we embrace the chaos of a family-filled home, it’s incredible to get that time one on one with your significant other to relax, recharge and reconnect. And, as parents, sometimes our brains are so hard-wired to do things as a family, we can forget how to pack for just a couples weekend and what we’re going to do with our one on one time. Let’s take a look at how to not only enjoy your weekend getaway sans kids but also how to maximize it.
Pack Outside The Box
Sure, you’ve got your phone chargers, swimsuits, a nice outfit for a fancy dinner out, but what else can you add that’s outside of your usual packing list. Take the time to think about things your partner is into in the bedroom that you haven’t had a chance to enjoy in a while; or things you’re into too. If you’ve got a thing for male masturbators, maybe a toy to help him out. If he has a thing for lingerie, maybe shop online for a new piece you know he’d love. Other things to consider when “packing outside the box” are things you may not typically bring on trips with kids – favorite bottles of wine, candles, extra cash for a couples tattoo. If you’re willing to take time to plan the destination and the accommodations of where you’re staying, you’ll get a lot more enjoyment out of your alone time together.
Consider Doing Nothing
With the idea really gaining traction these days that less is more, consider the thought of not planning anything. Meaning don’t make dinner reservations, no excursions, anything. Maybe the magic is in just enjoying the city you go to, or perhaps it’s in not leaving your hotel room once. Sometimes the decision to surrender and do nothing is so freeing that it’s just what you need not only as individuals but as couples. Because sometimes, less really is more, primarily when you’re used to a household full of other people, chores, and the to-do list that seems never to end. Relax and breathe with one another.
Be Flexible
Especially with today’s way, it’s essential to remain flexible regarding travel arrangements and accommodations. In a lot of ways, vacations aren’t what they were two years ago. So, if this is your first time taking one, be flexible and have fewer expectations for things to run as smoothly as they once did. With longer lines and more precautions being taken, don’t let it sour the mood, be prepared for it, so you stay relaxed and in the moment. Remember, you two are taking this time to reconnect, and having arguments over silly things that are out of your control, especially during the travel part of your trip before things even get going, isn’t worth it.
