Fox drew the largest audience for Game 1 of the World Series since 2009, according to live-plus-same-day figures released Wednesday by Nielsen.
The Cleveland Indians 6-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs Tuesday averaged 19.368 million viewers, the most for a Game 1 since 2009, when the opening game of the Series between the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies averaged 19.512 million viewers.
Viewership was up 30 percent from Game 1 of the 2015 Series between the Kansas City Royals and New York Mets, which averaged 14.9 million viewers.
Spanish-language coverage on Fox Deportes averaged 297,000 viewers. An average of 121,073 watched on the Fox Sports Go live streaming platform, giving the game a total average viewership of 19.786 million viewers, the most for a Game 1 since the 2004 Series, when the opener between the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals averaged 23.168 million.
Fox has carried the World Series each year since 2000.
