Meet Century City: Dr. Ben Shamoiel, Century City Health Solutions

Dr. Ben Shamoiel.
Dr. Ben Shamoiel.

Dr. Ben Shamoiel, D.C., a Century City chiropractor, converted his childhood experience of living alongside his own mother’s disability into his dream job by treating patients with long-term medical care and joint therapy. After moving to the Westside 12 years ago, he finds new beauty in Century City with every walk or bike ride.

Tell me a little about what you do in Century City?

I run Century City Health Solutions – a Chiropractic and Wellness Center with focus on corrective care to produce long-term results rather than short-term fix. I offer personalized and detailed approach to deliver clear care plans that fit my clients health needs in a busy environment. Most importantly I listen to them. My office is a one-stop-shop as it provides chiropractic care, cleansing, massages and pilates sessions.

What motivated you to get into the role?

My childhood experience of the medically undiagnosed, grossly mistreated and debilitating illness of my mother, combined with my father’s gentle, conscientious care for her, and my own belief in the divine purpose of constructive order in nature, called forth my unswerving, lifetime dedication to healing and was a strong motivation to become a Doctor of Chiropractic.

Where did it all begin for you career-wise?

My first practice was located in Financial District of Downtown Los Angeles. I really enjoyed being there until 9/11.  I then moved to West Los Angeles for 12 years providing family care. I have been always drawn to Century City and in January moved into the medical plaza. I am thrilled and honored to serve my patients in my dream office in Century City.

What do you love about Century City? Where is your favorite place to eat/exercise/take a break from the office in the area?

I get my exercise by cycling to work. I find Century City to have so many hidden gems but I really enjoy the park at the Towers. One of my favorite places to eat is the place with the hot stones in the food court, Bibigo.

If you could add one thing to the area what would it be and why?

That is a hard question. I would like to see more people involved in creating a healthy lifestyle. Walking clubs or something to get people out of the office and moving would be good. I would also like to see fun activities where people can come down and play a little like recess in school. Dodgeball or tetherball for example. How fun would that be.

What do you do in your spare time?

Having a two-year old daughter and a four-year old son, I love to spend most of my spare time with my family. I also enjoy bicycling, going to the beach, surfing, and snorkeling.

What is one cool thing that you want to do this year?

I want to get more in to politics. I recently became the president of the California Chiropractic Association West LA District and going to work my way up to state level. Insurance and Pharmaceutical companies are constantly lobbing to make sure people stay dependent on medication. That’s why here in the US we use 75 percent of the world’s medication. Wellness and prevention should have a say at the big table. So I am on a mission to increase my political knowledge.

Where was your last vacation?

I took a whole month of December 2014 off and took my family to a Big Island of Hawaii. Each week we stayed on a different side of the Island allowing us to fully experience its 11 ecosystems and local people its customs and way of living. My favorite part was snorkeling, getting to meet other chiropractors living on the Island and celebrate Hanukkah with the local Jewish community.

Where do you wish your last vacation was?

My last vacation was the perfect place I wished for.
