Rewind to February 2022 and the Los Angeles Rams were right in the thick of the headlines as they edged out the Cincinnati Bengals to win just a second franchise Super Bowl.
Talk around that subject has dampened down in the months since but the joy has exploded back into the mainstream over the last couple of days with the LA Rams releasing their bespoke Super Bowl ring.
Here we cover everything you need to know about that very ring and whether the latest football betting odds put them as favorites to reconquer that ring.
A brief Super Bowl recap
Before we get into the details of the newly released LA Rams Super Bowl ring, we thought we should remind ourselves of exactly how the Rams come to need that ring in the first place. Cast your mind back to February 13th 2022 and it was the Bengals and their star man Joe Burrow that were supposed to emerge victorious. Just like the half time show, which featured Eminem, Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg to name just a few, the game unfolded in a somewhat unexpected yet spectacular fashion.
Despite the relatively low scoring result at 23-20 the entertainment level was on point as the two teams battled for points and momentum. The Rams took the first quarter 7-3 but when the half time whistle ended we saw just a three point differential with the Bengals earning an extra point back in Q2. In the third it looked like Burrow’s and co had done enough to win the game as they won the quarter 10-3; that gave them a four point lead.
Into the final quarter, the Bengals looked comfortable with their offensive threat making them feel likely to add to their lead rather than lose it; it was though a series of missed opportunities because the LA Rams didn’t waste their chances. In the end, they took the final quarter 7-0 with Cooper Kupp landing the late touchdown. Kupp then added game MVP award to his night to further sweeten the evening.
What is a Super Bowl ring?
When you talk about Super Bowl success the thing that normally springs to mind is the Vince Lombardi trophy; that, however, is prize awarded to the winning team. The players don’t get to take the trophy home; that’s where the rings come in. They are part funded by the NFL and part funded by the respective teams with both the winning and losing teams awarded a ring as a token of their achievement. Of course, like any form of medal, the winning ones are much more desirable and receive more focus.
In respect of what the rings are, they are typical rings I.e. jewellery that you wear on your fingers. Although they change year to year, there are usually some common similarities with the colours and the inclusion of player names, team badge and a reference to the Super Bowl year rarely amended.
What does the Rams ring look like?
We’ve now touched on how the LA Rams won the latest Super Bowl and what the ring usually looks like. Now it is about the latest ring, which was released into the public domain by the Rams late last week. With an abundance of tiny details hidden inside what is a bold and blingy design it is fair to say it’s caused quite the reaction.
From the front, you’re met with a sparkling, diamond filled plate. The obvious details are the striking blue letters ‘LA’, a diamond encrusted Vince Lombardi trophy and two gold edged palm trees. The fire details within that though are seriously impressive. The Rams won 12 regular games throughout the 2021 season and, as such, the Super Bowl trophy is 0.13 carats. A similar method is followed with the 26 post season victories the Rams have achieved in their history.
The detail doesn’t stop there, remove that front ‘cap’ and you’ll find a miniature version of the Super Bowl venue, SoFi Stadium complete with both team names and genuine components of the pitch and game ball. Turn your attention to the sides and the bulk of the ring is ‘supported’ by the famous SoFi roof columns with the diamond work of those said columns coming in at 0.23 carats. Why? That’s the number of points the Rams scored to win the Super Bowl.
The only other thing we can tell you about the ring at this time is that it’s the heaviest Super Bowl ring we’ve had yet; it comes in with a total weight of 20 carats. The cost attached to that record setting ring isn’t widely known as yet but estimates based on previous rings but it is close to the $50k mark.
Closing Thoughts
With all that considered, it’s fair to say people are rightly going nuts about such an impressive and well-thought-through design.
That’s it, that’s everything we know about the LA Rams newly released Super Bowl ring. The Rams are among the top 5 favorites in the odds to win the ring next year again, so who knows if we will see another one in their collection in 2023?
