For the past 20 years, the Japan America Society of Southern California has held an annual Japan America Kite Festival in order to help foster a relationship between the peoples of Japan and America. Last Sunday, the Japan America Kite Festival was held in Santa Monica for the first time ever, with kites taking over the skies above the beach adjacent to the pier, and a number of Japan and kite-related booths activities taking place on the pier itself. Japan America Society of Southern California President Douglas Erber explained what made the festival unique.
