“WILD & RIVETING!†For those of you who missed the opportunity to hear COLIN BRODERICK’s reading at FINN McCOOL’S IRISH PUB – SANTA MONICA last night, we recommend you buy his book and catch his next performance. On MONDAY, APRIL 26, 2010, Irish Lad, COLIN BRODERICK read excerpts of his bio ORANGUTAN to a packed Irish Pub. He followed with a lively Q&A and BOOK SIGNING. “Finn McCool’s Irish Pub was the perfect venue for Colin’s reading†said Annie Nisbet, PR/Media Director. The Irish Pub hosts Irish and contemporary bands throughout the week and this was their first book reading. “We’re thrilled it was so well received and plan to host more authors on a regular basis†said Nisbet.
ORANGUTAN is more than just another run-of-the-mill memoir about battling addiction; it’s the story of an Irish drunk unlike any you’ve met before and brutal though his story may be, Colin, surprisingly enough, manages to find humor and even joy in the direst of circumstances. Colin was raised Irish Catholic in the heart of Northern Ireland. In 1988, at the age of 20, he moved to the Bronx to drink, work construction, and pursue his dream of becoming a writer. For the next 20 years, as he drank himself into oblivion, there were failed marriages, car wrecks, hospitals and jail cells. Yet in the midst of those dark days there were some bright spots as well; Colin found a mentor in the poet Billy Collins and a home for himself in the blossoming Irish theatrical community in the Bronx.
Finn McCool’s Irish Pub – Santa Monica is owned by chef, restaurateur and author, Geraldine Gilliland, herself an Irish lass from West Belfast. After her stepfather died, she returned to Ireland to pack up the artifacts in his Pub, painstakingly dismantled his entire bar and shipped it through the Panama Canal to Santa Monica. A crew of Irish craftsmen meticulously reconstructed it and on St. Patrick’s Day, 2002, Finn McCool’s Irish Pub was born – an authentic Irish Pub just two blocks from the beach in the heart of sunny CA. Many of the staff hail from Ireland, which makes one truly feel back in the Old Country. www.finnmccoolsirishpub.com
