5 Tips for Being Healthier in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is an odd place, especially when you consider the extremes it has. There is a large wage gap, a lot of mental health problems, and other physical ones. There are holistic rich people and poor people doing their best. Whether you are trying to be physically healthier, mentally healthier, or both, there are plenty of things you can do. Depending on who you are and what you want to change, Los Angeles has every avenue to be healthier and to become incredibly unhealthy. Below are some tips for being healthier in Los Angeles.

Try to Walk More

Los Angeles, of course, is a city of cars. The smog tells the story. However, walking is one of the best ways to exercise and clear your mind. If you feel safe enough to walk in your neighborhood, that should be at the top of your list. But, when you don’t live somewhere very accessible to walking, there is always one of the many hikes around the Los Angeles area. Whether you are trying to lose weight or use walking to help you think, walking is one of the healthiest things you can do for yourself. We all need to walk more!

Seek Addiction Treatment

LA has no shortage of drugs and alcohol. Addiction affects every walk of life. From the people on the streets to successful people with high-end designer drugs and pills, substance abuse is one of America’s biggest problems. Luckily, there has been an incredible response in recent years to provide more thorough, personalized, and comprehensive treatment. The LAWellness Home, for example, provides this form of treatment for heroin, cocaine, and other drugs. Whatever you are dependent upon, if you have withdrawal symptoms when you stop using the drug or drinking, you should be sure to check into a facility for supervised detox and the initial phase of recovery.

Do Guided Meditations

Meditation has become popular for a reason. It’s a great way to clear the mind and focus on the present. It helps us cope in a few ways. However, it can be hard to get there on your own at first. One thing that you should do if you can’t seem to meditate by yourself is do a guided meditation. There are all kinds of mindfulness specialists and meditation experts that focus on the psychology of meditation first and spirituality second. Whatever your style, meditation can help you clear the fog and live in this busy city more happily and healthily.

Eat Out Less

Of course, who doesn’t love going out to eat in Los Angeles? There are great restaurants here and all kinds of different foods from around the world. However, going out to eat can be both expensive and bad for you. Instead, you should take advantage of the bounty that California produces. There are great fruits and vegetables here and they should be utilized in the home. Don’t go out once. Buy some great ingredients at a farmer’s market and make a delicious, healthy meal for yourself and your loved ones.

Utilize Mental Health Resources

Beyond addiction treatment and meditation, there are all kinds of mental health services you can take advantage of when you live in Los Angeles. Just about every expert from every field can be found here. There are plenty of therapies available to improve your wellness. Whether you are looking for EMDR, eye movement desensitization reprocessing treatment for trauma or cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to change maladaptive behaviors, there is no shortage of mental health resources in Los Angeles. You shouldn’t be ashamed to make use of them.

LA isn’t the easiest city to be healthy in, but it’s all here for the taking. It’s entirely possible to live the best, happiest, and most successful life you can imagine in the city of Los Angeles. It depends on who you are, what you need, and how you want to go about it, but there is worrying that LA isn’t the place for health. We all know that annoying health person, but we don’t have to be that either. Personal wellness and overall health comes from a few things. It’s always important to remember that the body and mind are inextricably connected, offering all kinds of ways to be healthier and happier.
