In a fast-paced world where we’re almost all collectively experiencing crisis fatigue, it’s more important than ever that we show ourselves some grace and self-love these days. Sure, you may have an arsenal of health tips and tricks for yourself, but do you also know how to pamper and ground yourself? Self-love is defined as a regard for one’s well being and happiness in a desirable and non-narcissistic way. It’s important to honor ourselves whenever we can and as often as possible. Still, you constantly put yourself on the back burner if you’re like most women – between personal and professional commitments. Let’s look at some easy ways to start putting yourself first and show yourself some more love.
Get Outta Dodge
Do you have a partner that can watch the children for a night or two? Grandparents or a trusted friend? Getting out of town, even for a one or two-night mini-vacation, is not only excellent self-love but healthy too. Studies consistently show that people who take regular vacations are at a lower risk of stroke and cardiovascular disease. They also have a more positive outlook on life and better mental health. So, next time you can get away, even for a day, jump at the chance!
Go Ahead, Splurge!
We’ve all heard the phrase “treat yourself,” While it may not be in your nature or even your budget, sometimes it’s worth the positive benefits to go ahead and splurge a little. Maybe you’ve been eyeing a new pair of designer heels, a handbag, high-end lingerie panties, or jewelry – go ahead and seize the day! Not only does a wardrobe full of things that make you feel sexy and confident add to your self-image, but it’s also great for your emotional wellbeing. As they say, when you look good, you feel good.
Good Day, Sunshine!
Spending time outdoors is not only grounding, provides you with that critical Vitamin D, and is excellent for your emotional health; it’s a great way to show yourself some love for free. Maybe you don’t have the budget to go out and splurge on something to make yourself feel great, or perhaps you’re more prone to a minimalist lifestyle and don’t want to buy something to feel better. Getting outdoors is free, and the benefits are immense. Go for a walk, hike, just lay in a hammock. Maybe you could start a hobby of gardening or landscaping. Spending time outdoors every day is an easy and effective way to boost your mental and emotional health and one that you can start immediately.
Indulge In A Spa Day
While an entire day at the spa may not be within everyone’s budget, one treatment likely is. Go for it if you can afford to have a whole day full of facials, massage, Mani/Pedi, and possibly even some lash extensions done! Not only are massages and facials excellent for your physical health, but the calming and relaxing atmosphere of the spa is soothing for your mind. Make sure you go somewhere you feel comfortable and if you have a favorite provider, book them. If you’d rather have a relaxing afternoon at home, you can also have a masseuse come to you and work out all the tension in your body in the comfort of your own home.
Focus On The Positive
It may be easier said than done for many women, but choosing to focus on the positives we have in our lives instead of ruminating on the negatives is one of the best ways to clear your mind and your heart. We all know intellectually we have so much to be grateful for, but it’s easy to get hung up on the things that cause us stress or worry. By acknowledging those thoughts and releasing them, we can show ourselves some love by living in the present and not worrying over things we can’t control.
Self-love and care seem to come so easy to certain women while others struggle to find it – the truth is, those who appear to have it easy probably put some initial work in to get there. So, let the above be a starting point for ways you can start showing yourself some love and feeling your best because you deserve it!
