It’s Halloween season at the box office. ‘
“Goosebumps”, the big-screen adaptation of the classic R.L. Stine horror stories starring Jack Black, was the most-popular movie in the United States and Canada this weekend. It raked in $23.5 million in its opening weekend in theaters, according to studio estimates gathered by Rentrak.
“The Martian” was in second place. The space thriller starring Matt Damon took in $21.5 million in its third week.
The Steven Spielberg-directed Cold War drama “Bridge of Spies” was third in its opening week with $15.3 million.
The ghost story “Crimson Peak” debuted in the fourth spot with $12.8 million, and the kids’ horror film “Hotel Transylvania 2” was fifth with $12.2 million.
Rounding out the 10 most-popular movies this week, as estimated by the studios, were “Pan” ($5.8 million), “The Intern” ($5.4 million), “Sicario” ($4.5 million), “Woodlawn” ($4.1 million) and “Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials” ($2.7 million).
