Nickelback today canceled the rest of its North American tour dates, including a Friday concert at Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, because lead vocalist Chad Kroeger has been diagnosed with a cyst on his voice box.
Kroeger has been ordered to rest his voice for three weeks and then will have surgery to remove the cyst.
“I am sorry I have to interrupt the party this summer and I am definitely not thrilled with the prospect of being silent for many weeks to come when I could be out there playing for our fans,” he said in a statement released through concert promoter Live Nation.
“I am relying on my doctor and his team to help get my voice back in good form as quickly as possible,” Kroeger said.
Kroeger is expected to return in time for the European leg of the band’s tour, scheduled to begin at the end of September in Finland.
Ticket refunds will be available at the point of purchase, according to Live Nation. More information is available online at livenation.com and nickelback.com.
