The Beverly Hills artSHOW, held on May 16 and 17, brought more than 40,000 art lovers to the City. Attendees enjoyed the work of 240 artists along a four-block expanse of Beverly Gardens on Santa Monica Boulevard. Sales were robust and the City’s Mayor, Julian Gold, M.D., was out appreciating the fabulous art and to present awards given to a diverse roster of artists, including painters, sculptors, photographers, ceramic and glass artists, mixed media artists and more. (A complete list of winners is attached to this press release.) In acknowledgement of the Mayor’s Purchase Award, an award given to the artist from whom the Mayor selects a piece of art for installation at one of the City’s public facilities, Mayor Julian Gold recognized Metal Artist Greg Clark for his Affirmation piece to be placed on a wall at the newly renovated Roxbury Community Center. The Mayor’s Purchase Award was established to affirm the City’s support of the arts and its commitment to the cultural community.
“I was very impressed with all of the artists whose work was shown at the art show,” says Mayor Julian Gold. “Affirmation is made from aluminum which has been carved and etched. The center of the sculpture is a square which has an unexpected turn. It appealed to my sense of humor and my appreciation for those who see the world from their unique perspective.”
Karen McLean, artSHOW Director, says “Greg Clark’s artwork and Affirmation piece is representative of Beverly Hills artSHOW’s diverse mix of artists and genres. We look forward to bringing in new and different artists to this open-air environment where artists can interact with visitors and share their personal stories and ideas behind each creation.”
