5 Tips for Planning a Trip to Orange County

When you’re thinking of planning a short getaway with your family or friends, Orange County in Los Angeles is the perfect destination. There’s a lot to see and do in Orange County, including historic sites, Disneyland, other amusement parks, scenic hikes, divine beaches, lavish restaurants, and Berry Farm. Here are some of the tips you’ll need when you plan your trip.

Getting there

Four major airports are situated close to Orange County. They include Los Angeles/Ontario International Airport, Los Angeles International Airport, The John Wayne Airport, and Long Beach Airport. The most convenient out of all them is The John Wayne Airport. It’s the one that’s closest to Orange County, plus it offers commercial passenger services, making it easier to access the area from the airport. There are many direct flights from different cities, including Salt Lake City, Portland, and Chicago. It’s conveniently located 35 miles south of Los Angeles. Major airlines found at the airport include AirTran, Delta, Southwest, United, American, and US Airways. You’ll also be able to access rental car companies, including Enterprise and Hertz.

Getting around

The best way to get around the OC would be to get a rented car from either of the rental car companies mentioned above. It’s the easiest way to get around, and the parking fees are cheap in most places and free in some. You can also choose to walk because some of the towns are walkable. However, if you decide to walk, then consider shoe inserts designed to increase comfort. Depending on the hotel you’ll be staying in, you might also get shuttle services to get you to and from different attractions, including the theme parks.

Smart timing

The weather is perfect year-round, and there’s no bad and good time to visit Orange County. The summers are hot and humid, but the ocean breeze offers a tremendous cooling effect. The best time to visit the county is during winter, but you might find it busy during that time if you don’t like crowded areas. If you want to visit when it’s less busy, then travel around April, May, September, and October, depending on when convenient. Check the events that will be taking place when you plan to visit. There are several festivals and celebrations hosted in Orange County. Sea Life Storytelling and Laguna Beach Art Walks are some of the annual events. During summer, you’ll be able to enjoy Newport Beach whale watching excursions and the Huntington Beach Annual Pier Swim in June. There are also food and music festivals, marathons, and boat parades to enjoy if you visit during the holidays.

Things to do

The OC is famous for its beautiful beaches and stunning coastline. Therefore you’ll enjoy different water activities such as surfing and yacht cruises. Some great beaches include Laguna Beach, Sunset Beach, and Shaw’s Cove. Among other activities you can engage in include stand-up paddleboarding, take a hike at the Red Rock Canyon or Top of The World, beach-side bike ride, your Disneyland, and visit Knott’s Berry Farm, among several other activities.

Where to stay

If you want a central place to stay where you can access most beaches and restaurants, you can stay at Laguna Beach. You can base yourself at The Ranch in Laguna Beach. It features many excellent amenities, including a full-service spa, a nine-hole golf course, and several dining options. There are a number of other options to choose from in terms of accommodation depending on your budget.
