Cancer Support Community Los Angeles, The Benjamin Center (CSC), hosted its annual Gilda Award Gala, Friday, May 12, at the InterContinental Los Angeles, Century City. The evening of achievement and celebration honored Ruth and the late Martin Weil with the Wellness Award and Dr. Deane Wolcott with the Harold H. Benjamin Innovation Award. Comedian, actor and activist Sandra Valls emceed the Gala, named after the late, legendary comedian Gilda Radner. Judy Caruthers chaired the evening.
Ann Benjamin, Chair of the Board of Directors and daughter of Cancer Support Community founders, Harold and Harriet Benjamin welcomed the more than 250 guests, reinforcing her parents’ vision “that no one should face cancer alone.
“Today,” she continued “there are 45 locations nationwide with over 100 satellites.” Before leaving the stage, she took a moment to acknowledge three founding board members; Joyce Eisenberg Keefer, Chuck Hershson and awardee, Ruth Weil, “three people who are the lifeblood of this organization, helping us become the cornerstone of the cancer care community.”
