Saturday will be a difficult day to be driving in the West Hollywood area, with street closures planned to make way for the annual Halloween Carnaval, which attracts thousands of people in often-outrageous costumes in a massive street party.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the heart of the city on Saturday, and the street closures will continue until Sunday morning. The Carnaval officially lasts from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The primary closures, which will begin at midnight Friday night and continue until 6 a.m. Sunday, are San Vicente Boulevard between Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue, and Santa Monica Boulevard between Doheny Drive and Croft Avenue/Holloway Drive.
A series of smaller streets in the area will also be blocked. A full list of closures is available on the city’s website at www.weho.org.
The city will suspend permit parking restrictions from 11 a.m. Saturday until noon Sunday, but city officials warned residents to ensure they are parking in West Hollywood, since neighboring Los Angeles and Beverly Hills will continue to enforce all parking restrictions.
Public parking lots will be available, and a list of locations and prices is also available on the city’s website.
City officials encouraged residents to carpool or use public transit, or take advantage of The PickUp shuttle service.
