Lawrence Wolf and Scott Hollander Present: Raw Expression

Lawrence Wolf and Scott Hollander will present a collaborative exhibition, Raw Expression, at a pop-up gallery in Santa Monica. An opening reception for the artists will be held on Saturday, November 16, from 6:00–9:30 p.m. The gallery is located at 2903 Santa Monica Blvd., Santa Monica, CA 90404.

Lawrence Wolf and Scott Hollander reveal the intrinsic poetry and lyrical whimsy of the universe contained in every being. Through bold textures and rich fields of color, the artists convey their spiritual experiences and offer the viewer a glimpse into the inner journeys of two very different men.

Wolf experiments with mixed media on raw canvas. Solid forms unfold and their bare essence is conveyed in the interplay of primitive energy and sophisticated emotion. Each piece expresses the artist’s struggle and joy in communicating his heart as he travels through a systematic world.

From the Rocky Mountains to the California high desert to the holy city of Jerusalem, Hollander invokes in his paintings wonder and sensitivity. His works capture the emotion of mankind, the dance of time across ancient landscapes, and freeze for a moment on canvas the constancy of creation.

Lawrence Wolf is a criminal defense attorney in Los Angeles. His experiences in this field are suggested through his series of original paintings entitled RAW. Painting mostly in acrylic on raw canvas, the abstract work manifests the artist’s drive to look at things in new ways.

Hollander was born in America and raised in the campo of Andalucía, Spain. He hails from a family of accomplished artists and adventurers. A falconer, skier, rock climber, and expert horseman, Hollander has always lived close to the pulse of nature. Having practiced landscape and portrait photography for many decades, Hollander later discovered painting as a more personal expression of his unique perspective.

The pop-up exhibition will be on view from November 16–November 28, 2013. Gallery hours are: Sunday, November 17, 4:00-7:00pm; Thursday, November 21, 5:00-8:00pm; Saturday, November 23, 6:00-9:00pm; Sunday, November 24, 5:00-8:00pm; and also by appointment.
