Stephanie Visser has been painting and drawing most of her life following her passion through art classes and creative ventures.
At the top of her high school class, Visser won a national merit scholarship that her parents hoped she would apply toward a degree in music, mathematics or engineering at a state school. It was not to be, “I walked away from the scholarship with exactly the kind of sureness really only known to an eighteen year old,†Visser says laughing as she recalls the memory.
After graduating college with a degree in Fine Arts, she started her own business AS WHAT? WHERE? But was drawn to making art so closed her business, returned to California and starting taking graduate level art classes. “During that time I went through a divorce and had to go back to work to pay my bills. Today I work a full time job, manage a 16 unit apartment building and paint after work and on weekends in order to pay my bills and follow my dream of being a painter,†Visser said of her busy schedule.
Visser has been a member of TAG Gallery for five years now. “I’ve had a show every year for the past five years,†she says. In addition, she has won awards in several international competitions and participated in a number of group exhibitions.
“I never fully understand the meaning of my work until I view it in total. Bringing the subconscious to conscious awareness comes out of my habitual, internal quest for truth and beauty. That search, expressed in previous works has continued, inexplicably,†Visser comments about her paintings.
The opening reception for Visser’s, in which Lorraine Bubar and Peter Kempson are also featured, is December 1, 2012 5:00pm – 8:00pm. Visser will present an artist talk on December 15, 2012 3:00pm. The group exhibition runs November 27, 2012 – December 22, 2012.
