Performed like a game in which the rules are constantly changing, full of play but loaded with the adrenaline of dire consequences, Faye Driscoll’s choreography explores how two bodies on a stage make meaning out of an empty space embedded in the inescapable entanglement of the performance of you and me.
“You’re me†will be performed by Driscoll and acclaimed dancer Jesse Zaritt, with an original score by Brandon Wolcott on Thursday, April 26, 2012 and Friday, April 27, 2012 8:30pm at the Glorya Kaufman Dance TheaterKaufman Hall, UCLA 120 Westwood Plaza in Westwood.
With Ms. Driscoll’s 2-week residency, UCLA’s Department of World Arts and Cultures/Dance (WACDance) inaugurates an initiative designed to bring a new generation of outstanding choreographers to UCLA and Los Angeles for performances and residency activities. Envisioned by Professor and Choreographer Victoria Marks as an ongoing feature of the department, the artist residency initiative, RPM (Residency Program for Movement), provides a rare opportunity for UCLA students to study intensively with leading figures who are changing the field of dance. The initiative also bridges the university-community divide with public performances and master classes for area high school dance students.
