From April 9-14, 2012, The Beverly Hills Public Library will once again celebrate National Library Week by waiving library fees in exchange for non-perishable food donations.
In conjunction with the Westside Food Bank, the library will accept food donations and waiving fines during regular operating hours. The Library is located at 444 N. Rexford Drive, Beverly Hills, 90210.
“Food-For-Fines is one of our most successful programs,†says Nancy Hunt-Coffey, Assistant Director of Community Services for Beverly Hills. “It’s a win-win because we get overdue books returned and our patrons help feed the neediest in our community.†Adults may have fines waived by providing food donations, but children who come to the circulation desk will have their fines waived with or without donations.
Last year the library collected three huge barrels of food that reached children in need, low-income families, unemployed and underemployed individuals, homeless people and others in need in our community.
Food-for-Fines is just one of the many services the library provides. In today’s tough economy, libraries offer free resources, entertainment and a community environment.
