The Drum Festival main attraction is the Drum & Percussion Summit featuring Stanley Randolph, Fausto Cuevas, and Munyungo Jackson highlighting Stevie Wonders’ Rhythm. Closing the Jazz Festival is the laureate Horace Tapscott Pan African Peoples Arkestra. Enhancing the family experience will be guided tours of the Watts Towers, arts exhibitions, children’s activities, arts and crafts, international food delicacies, special designed clothing, and jewelry.
Both Festivals take place at the Watts Towers Campus at the adjacent Charles Mingus Youth Arts Center, on Saturday, September 24, 2011, and Sunday, September 25, 2011. From 10:00am to 6:00pm on both days.
The Center is easily accessible from the 105-E freeway at the exit 10, Wilmington Avenue. Also from the 108th street bus stop, 305 and 612 routes, and the 103rd Street / Kenneth Hahn Station (Blue Line.) There is free self-park, and valet parking is also free.
