The Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA) will dish up some summertime musical fun when it presents “Hairspray Sing-Along,†featuring the delightfully campy musical film about “pleasantly plump†teenager Tracy Turnblat (Nikki Blonsky) who rallies against 1960s-era segregation with the support of her reclusive mother Edna Turnblat (John Travolta in drag)at “Evening Under the Stars”.
The event on July 31, 2011 at Hollywood Forever Cemetary is sponsored by HBO, which benefits the Chorus’s Outreach Program, “Alive Music Project,†which melds fun with a message of tolerance. Melds Fun with Message of Tolerance
Guests are encouraged to bring picnics, lawn chairs and blankets to this family-oriented outdoor film screening and sing-a-long.
VIP gates open at 6:00pm, followed by general admission at 7:00pm and the screening is at 8:30pm.
GMCLA’s Alive Music Project (AMP) is a unique outreach program for public schools that addresses bullying and the importance of tolerance and diversity through music master classes and performances that focus on LGBT composers.
Tickets to the “Hairspray Sing-Along†are $10 at the door; VIP tickets – which include a private reception hosted by Blonsky, preferred seating at the movie, a private tour of the cemetery, preferred parking and a Hollywood Forever “swag bag†– are $100.
