Artists from Los Angeles and beyond will come together to transform the space by dressing everyday items in yarn and other fiber material.
Enjoy a stroll and marvel in the handmade work attached to trees, posts, benches and other fixtures throughout the complex.
The act of Yarn Bombing combines the art of street installation with needlework to create colorful, unexpected, and humorous messages in public spaces.
This is a two-fold exhibition, and includes a wall display inside in an artists studio at the 18th Street Art Center as well. Works may range from whimsical to functional or political; and all push the knit/crochet envelope.
Recycled knit and fiber materials is encouraged.
The entry process includes attending the orientation/ site tour on Saturday, February 19th 2-5pm at 1653 18th Street, Santa Monica, CA, 90404.
Each participant will claim their spot and propose a site specific project during the orientation. Space is available on a first come first serve basis. Attendees are highly encouraged to stay for the 18th Street Arts Center Art Night 6-10pm on February 19th to experience the complex during this special event as our own event will unfold during the next artnight on June 18th.

An ongoing stitch and bitch group will meet at the same location every 3rd Saturday of each month to work together and also to accept new applications. After the initial meeting, these monthly get-togethers are optional. Due to the site specific nature of the event, visiting the space in person at least once is essential, but exceptions can be made for highly enthusiastic parties (international applicants?) who are unable to come but would like to work out a way to participate.
