Literati Café Turns 10
Literati Café, on the northeast corner of Wilshire and Bundy, just turned 10. Paty and Tony Kouba, Brentwood residents, started Literati, giving it a “creative†theme. Photos on the walls pay tribute to great writers, directors, actors and producers in the fields of film, academia and literature.
The bigger room offers great coffees, salads and sandwiches. It’s a great gathering place for people who are working on their various creative ventures.
For finer dining, a smaller restaurant on the west side of the building offers a full range of food, from meats to vegetarian dishes. On Thursday nights there’s a fun burger-and-beer menu at very attractive prices. On Sunday, Literati serves brunch.
Kesem
The word “Kesem†means magic in Hebrew. Camp Kesem is a magical place for children between the ages of six and 16 who have or had a parent with cancer to enjoy a week of summer camp fun. Camp Kesem is a student-run organization and has camps all over the nation at several major universities, including one at UCLA.
The activities there are just like any other sleep away summer camp except for one standout activity called Cabin Chat where the children get to talk about how they are feeling. The counselors ask certain open ended questions such as, “If you had three wishes, what would they be?†or “Who is your biggest hero?â€
