Heritage Auction Galleries will hold the first Entertainment Memorabilia Auction at its new Beverly Hills venue this weekend, April 9 to 11. The Dallas based auction powerhouse now ranks third worldwide and is adding variety to the auction scene in Los Angeles, the largest city in the world that is not home to a Top 100 ranked auction house.
Headliners at this auction include the costume vest and shirt worn by Rhett Butler in the 1939 classic “Gone With The Wind†and a petticoat worn by Scarlett O‘Hara in the same film. Pre auction estimates for these rare items are in the low five figures. A coat worn by Rudolph Valentino in a classic silent film is also expected to attract very competitive bidding.
There are a total of 1245 lots for sale at this three day auction, which will make it the largest auction in California so far this year. Some of the items are well within the budget of average collectors. For example, there is an entire set of nine signed Playbill theater programs autographed by some of the most celebrated stage actors of the 20th Century: Helen Hayes, John Lithgow, Julie Harris and Liv Ullmann, to name a few. The bidding begins at just $350. Unused mint condition tickets for the Beatles legendary 1966 Shea Stadium concert in New York will auctioned with bids starting at $800.
The new offices for Heritage Auction Galleries in Beverly Hills are located at 9478 West Olympic Boulevard, one block east of South Rodeo Drive. Visitors can preview the items offered for sale this week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment with a call to 310-492-8600. Auction bidding this Saturday and Sunday begins at 11 a.m. both days.
