Former Brentwood resident O.J. Simpson was convicted of kidnapping, armed robbery and 10 other charges in Los Vegas October 3 for robbing two sports memorabilia dealers at gunpoint in a Las Vegas hotel room.
The jury returned their conviction after only one day of deliberation.
The Hall of Fame football star is best remembered for being acquitted of the brutal stabbing murder of his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman 13 years ago. The 61-year old Simpson faces as much as 132 years to life in prison. He was denied a defense request to go free pending his appeal, handcuffed and remanded into custody in the courtroom following the decision.
Kidnapping carries at least five years in prison and armed robbery is a mandatory two years.
Ironically, four other defendants in the case struck a plea bargain with prosecutors in return for their testimony. An audiotape of the incident secretly recorded by memorabilia dealer Thomas Riccio went a long way to persuade the jury of Simpson’s guilt. Riccio claims to have received $210,000 for the tapes.
