iPhone Revisited
Can you believe it has been a year since Apple® introduced the iPhone? The device was definitely a first generation creation and left much to be desired. However, for iPhone’s first birthday, Steve Jobs has some treats in store, which will make me drink the Apple iPhone Kool-Aid, chant the “I want iPhone†mantra and even trade in my beloved Blackberry. There are so many new features that transform the iPhone from a “no thanks†to a “must-have†gadget. However, for the sake of this article not being three pages long, I am forced to pick just a few features.
The new iPhone 2.0 will work with my corporate Microsoft Exchange Server. This means that the backbone to corporate America’s e-mail, calendar and contact databases (namely Microsoft Exchange) now has a direct line of communication with the iPhone. Business and personal e-mail on the iPhone! Yes, a big deal and a real “must-have.â€
The new iPhone 2.0 will also run on the fast 3G, or 3rd Generation high speed data network on AT&T Wireless. This means that the speed which information comes to and from the iPhone improves from a moped to a Mercedes on the Autobahn. Data will travel up and down to the new iPhone at newly impressive speeds.
The new iPhone 2.0 will even include a GPS chip. Your phone will know exactly where you are at all times. Now stop the conspiracy theories out there about Big Brother watching your every step, and imagine a phone that can show you the nearest gas station (hope you have emptied your piggy bank) and know where you are in relation to it.
The iPhone 2.0 will not only have, but encourages, 3rd party applications! Now what the heck does THAT mean?? That means that if there is something you’d like your iPhone to do, and it doesn’t do it, you can bet your cellular envy that you can create or buy a program or application that can make your phone do it! Imagine the thousands of programs you can buy for your home PC or MAC that you can now buy for your phone!
I’m sure you’re ready to run out and grab one of these beautiful hunks of technology, but you will have to sit tight because you won’t be able to get one until the official launch on July 11. By the time you read this, that will only be a matter of days! Wow!
