How many of you type on your cell phone? I’m talking about typing e-mails and sending text messages here, folks, so I think that is about 99.9 percent of you. While you have your hands raised, keep your hands up if you have ever done that typing while in the car, or worse, while driving? Be honest, I’m sure you have. This, my friends, is very, very bad. But what is one to do? Have no fear; the solution is here. Don’t type anything out, just Jott it out. From here on out, use the new, free service that works on 100 percent of cell phones.
Once you create your free account on www.jott.com, the rest is all done by voice. Call (866) JOTT-123 and you’re ready to go. The Jott service will recognize your cell phone number and ask you, “Who do you want to Jott?â€
You can Jott yourself, Jott others, Jott a list to yourself, Jott a reminder, Jott a text message to someone, Jott to a group of people, Jott to a bunch of different web pages and on and on. For example, let’s say I want to remind myself to call my sweetie pie and say I love you. I’m not saying I would ever need to be reminded to do that, but let’s just pretend. I would call Jott and say into the phone the word “reminder.†The Jott service will ask me what the reminder is and when to make it. I will then receive a text message with my reminder at the exact date and time I ask.
But you may be asking: What about being in the car? Where does this come into play for that? Let’s say I’m making the long commute from Brentwood to Santa Monica one day and I want to send a text message to a friend to see if he wants to meet me. I push the speed dial button for Jott and reply, “Jott Ted Schilowitz.†The system responds by confirming the name and gives a quick beep. I then say, “Hey Ted, I’m heading to Santa Monica. You want to meet up for a cup of coffee?†When I finish talking I just hang up. That’s it! Now Jott will transcribe my message and fire off a text message to Ted. The system also works for e-mails.
How well does this service actually convert your voice to text? I spoke to the Grand Pooba over at Jott, and without getting into a lot of details, he explained to me that depending on how your voice sounds, your message is either transcribed by a machine or a person, or even a combination of both. Bottom line is that your message is really accurate. Jott is also quite friendly and non-nerd-like, meaning that you don’t have to be a computer or tech-nerd to figure out how to use it and make it sing and dance. As a matter of fact, once you start using it, YOU will be the one singing and dancing.
