Both record high temperatures and snow were forecast for the next three days in parts of Southern California by the National Weather Service today.
A classic fall Santa Ana wind was predicted to continue broiling the Southland today, and some beach locations might hit 90 degrees today as air blows through mountains, and is compressed and heated, the NWS said.
Highs in the 80s and nudging over 90 were predicted for today.
By 11 a.m., it was 85 degrees at Pacific Palisades, 84 degrees at Garden Grove, and 83 degrees at both Manhattan Beach and Huntington Beach, according to NWS stations.
But, a sweeping low pressure system sweeping in from the Gulf of Alaska would bring rain north of L.A.. and turn off the hot winds by Tuesday, forecasters said.
Rain might fall in the flatlands of the Los Angeles and orange county coastal zones starting Tuesday, but would be more likely north of the urban area, the NWS said.
Snow could fall in local mountains as temperatures drop from record-hot to below normal, a trend that is to continue through Thanksgiving.
