About the bands…
NIGHTINGALE: Nightingale was formed in 1993 by Jeremiah McLane (accordion, piano), Keith Murphy (voice, guitar, mandolin, piano, foot percussion), and Becky Tracy (fiddle). The nightingale bird is a poetic figure that appears in traditional songs from many places including parts of Northern Europe, Canada and the United States. So the nightingale was an appropriate emblem for a band commited to drawing inspiration from a wide musical territory that includes Ireland, France, Scandinavia, Newfoundland and Quebec.
John Whelan Trio: In late 1997 John formed the JOHN WHELAN
BAND. In 1998, the band enjoyed a milestone year, thrilling audiences at such major American music events as the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Washington Irish Folk Festival, as well as throughout Europe on a junket sponsored by Virgin Records, Naradas parent label. This evenings program will feature John Whelan and 2 of his band members performing Irish tunes.
The concert will be held at the FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH of SANTA MONICA (1220 2nd Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401)
Doors open at 7:30pm, music starts at 8pm.
