Compassionate Santa Monica is continuing its commitment and community driven heartbeat, combined with the challenging but rewarding spirit of compassion itself, to build a compassionate city, by being part of the LA2050 grants challenge.
LA2050 awards $1 million in grants across the county, and has 290 entries and Compassionate Santa Monica is one of them. Up until October 28, Angelenos will have a week to vote for the ideas that will make L.A. the best place to learn, create, play, connect, and live. Commpassion Santa Monica is aiming to inspire the citizens of Santa Monica and beyond through authentic acts of kindness and compassion improving the quality of life in the city, L.A. County (88 cities) and beyond. The Compassion Games are designed to make our communities safer, kinder, more just, equitable and better places to live, learn, connect, create, work and play.
“At the heart of the Compassion Games’ purpose is the belief that within each of us exists an in- nate, powerful, and ready kindness,” said Compassionate Santa Monica’s Zoë Muntaner. “We’re passionate about harnessing this kindness in service of ‘compassionate action,’ defined as action motivated by the intention to alleviate others’ pain and suffering. We’re also passionate about the importance of playfulness and fun as an effective means by which to build healthy community.”
The games are a way for civic leaders, community organizers, educators, parents, non-profits, religious groups, and businesses to produce collective impact.
“We are here to uplift each other, to help each other, be kind to each other, and serve each other. We play the game in at least three ways:
1. Community service projects (create your own or pick one of our suggested ideas)
2. Individual random acts of kindness,
3. Games that build personal and community resilience,” Muntaner added.
