This past Saturday, the Whole Foods store in West Hollywood hosted local Los Angeles bands Dig the Kid, Our Last Summer and Livingmore as part of a Summer Music Series that brings bands to Whole Foods stores throughout Southern California in support of the Whole Planet Foundation Charity.
Bands performed on a stage adjacent to the store’s entrance and exit, so shoppers as well as anyone making use of their outdoor tables were treated to a concert. Sponsors were handing out product samples throughout as well.
Dig the Kid, who played first, performed a high-energy style of rock n’ roll in the same vein as The Strokes. Most notably, they had a song titled “Stop Breathing” featured in the 2015 remake of “Point Break.”
Mark Nguyen, who is the founder of event producer Planet LA Records, explained that the bands that participate in these events often get involved on social media, promoting shows to their followers, as well as sometimes being interviewed on the Whole Planet Foundation website.
The Whole Planet Foundation is the charity branch of Whole Foods, and offers microloans to businesses in 68 different countries. Many of the products then end up on the shelves at various Whole Foods stores.
Sponsors and supporters included VitaCoco, Lifeway Kefir, Pop Chips and more. Last month’s event was held at the new Whole Foods store in Downtown L.A., and next month’s event will be held in Orange County. For more information about the Whole Planet Foundation, visit wholeplanetfoundation.org.
