CicLAvia’s 10th street festival, Heart of L.A., will take place Sunday along 10 miles of streets from Echo Park to East Los Angeles.
The route — accessible from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to walkers and bicyclists, but not cars — stretches from Echo Park to the East Los Angeles Civic Center, just east of the Long Beach (710) Freeway, the first CicLAvia to include streets in an unincorporated area.
Hubs will be located at Echo Park, Chinatown, the Theater District on Broadway, Mariachi Plaza, Cinco Puntos and the East Los Angeles Civic Center.
Each of the stopping areas will feature food stalls and activity stations, with some offering live music. Participants can stay hydrated amid the high-90s degree heat at water fountains at each of the hubs.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina — both members of the Metro Board of Directors that approved $4 million in transportation funds for the event — will help start the festival at 8:30 a.m. at the Cinco Puntos hub located at the intersection of Cesar Chavez Avenue and North Indiana Street, which marks the boundary between Los Angeles and unincorporated East Los Angeles.
Streets closed to car traffic during the event include Cesar Chavez Avenue, Mednik Avenue, Fourth Street, Second Street, Broadway and Glendale Boulevard.
